Several Wisconsin utilities funded a study to determine the effectiveness of various chemicals for control of the zebra mussel. The study was conducted in Manitowoc and Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and consisted of static and flow-through tests using adult mussels. This paper presents a conceptual design and estimated costs for the use of sodium metabisulfite at one utility with intakes on Lake Michigan.
