This paper presents the results for a continuous-flow stirred tank reactor (CSTR), including the development and verification of a mathematical model for ozone concentrations in a dynamic system. A model was developed to describe ozone mass transfer and first-order reaction in completely mixed ozone contactors. The results of batch and dynamic system studies of ozone decomposition show that the model is valid. Predictions are accurate for systems in which the first-order assumption for ozone decomposition is tenable. The decomposition of ozone in the presence of natural organic matter did not obey a first- order rate law; further modifications to the models are being evaluated to describe the ozonation of solutions containing natural organic matter.
