Three-dimensional representations supported the mathematical concept that as transmembranic pressure increased and water recovery decreased, the permeate concentration would decrease; however, it was determined that recovery does not affect the permeate concentration in the same degree as the transmembranic pressure differential. The permeate concentration has been shown to be more sensitive to changes in the water mass transfer coefficient relative to all other operational parameters evaluated. This signifies that the operational parameter that warrants the most attention in terms of future research in membrane processes is the water mass transfer coefficient, given that K, can be maintained.
