This paper describes the procedures and results of the monitoring, bench-scale and pilot-scale corrosion control studies. The objective of this three-phased approach was to identify the most effective treatment(s) for controlling corrosion in the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority water system. The five most common corrosion inhibitors used in water treatment were tested, which required five parallel test apparatuses: sodium hydroxide (current method of pH adjustment); lime; sodium silicate; zinc orthophosphate; and nonzinc orthophosphate.
