The most significant characteristic of Deep Creek Spillage water with regard to treatability is its high concentration of natural organic matter (NOM) (50 mg/l). From a regulatory standpoint, organic material is a concern because it serves as precursor material for disinfection by-products (such as trihalomethanes, or THMs).
