In the early 1980s, the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake City decided to upgrade the Little Cottonwood Water Treatment Plant. The first step was prepare a Master Plan, which was completed in 1985. Replacing the chemical feed equipment was one element of the Master Plan. The District has also undertaken to: replace flights and chains in the sedimentation basins; improve the solids handling facilities; construction 10 million gallons of additional storage; install a Distributed Control System. The construction is scheduled for completion in March 1993, at an estimated cost of $1.6 million.
