The Upper Guadalupe River Authority (UGRA) is a regional supplier of treated surface water in Kerr County, Texas, and is the primary provider of water to the City of Kerrville, Texas. Kerrville's water demands are expected to grow by 130% in the next 40 years and the UGRA will require additional water supply capacity. Demands are currently met through a combination of surface and groundwater supplies--the Guadalupe River which flows through Kerrville and the Hosston-Sligo formation of the Trinity Group aquifer, a limestone formation approximately 500 feet below ground surface. Because of limited groundwater availability, drought and regulatory limited surface water supplies, alternative means to meet future water needs are required. This paper presents the evaluation of aquifer storage recovery (ASR) as an alternative to surface water reservoirs to meet long-term water needs.
