Knowledge of the transient response to steady state is of significant importance in any treatment system in order to predict the time required to achieve the maximum effect of any feed water concentration change. This paper predicts the transient response in a membrane system by mathematically coupling a first order response equation with the permeate and concentrate solute stream concentrations as predicted by the homogeneous solution diffusion model.
