The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) proposed regulations for radon in drinking water on July 18, 1991. Of the more than 600 sets of comments submitted on the proposed rule, most focused on radon. Opinions over the proposed MCL for radon are sharply divided. Many of the commentors argue that USEPA's health risk estimate for radon in drinking water is overstated. USEPA contends that the health risk from radon in drinking water is significant, while other government agencies have questioned the need for regulating radon in drinking water at all. This paper answers the question, -is there a health risk from radon in drinking water?
