To develop information for use in planning for filtration, pilot plant investigations were undertaken by Greater Vancouver Water District (GVWD) at Seymour and Capilano Reservoirs. The most severe challenge for direct filtration of GVWD's source waters was expected to be effective treatment during episodes of high turbidity. Because the duration of natural high turbidity episodes during pilot plant operations was short, a program of high turbidity testing was undertaken with spiked turbidity at the Seymour pilot plant site. This paper describes the program of pilot plant testing for treatment of turbid water.
