The objective of this research project was to identify changes in water quality occurring during aquifer storage of treated drinking water. The focus of the investigation was on trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs), as these are the principal byproducts generated during the chlorination of drinking water and the ones expected to be regulated shortly by the US Environmental Protection Agency; maximum contaminant levels of 80 and 60 ug/L, respectively, are anticipated for total THMs and total HAAs.
