The American Water System owns and operates 68 surface water treatment facilities in 15 states. The goal of this research project was to collect specific laboratory and field data from some water supplies of the American Water System to establish baseline information about each surface water source. This information will be used to evaluate the adequacy of treatment facilities concerning present and future regulation. A total of 31 treatment plants with 38 source waters were selected for the study according to existing water quality information such as THMs, taste and odor, color, etc. The sampling schedule was designed to show seasonal variations in water quality.
