On January 14, 1992, the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) renewed a Consumptive Use Permit (CUP) for the City which authorized the continued withdrawal of groundwater from the Upper Floridan aquifer. One of the conditions for renewal of the CUP required that the City provide SJRWMD with a plan to evaluate and monitor the potential impacts that the wellfield operations may have on the surface water features in the project vicinity. The City currently has a program for monitoring surface water features, which is based on the evaluation of surficial aquifer monitoring from approximately 50 monitoring wells and seven years of weekly water level readings measured in Indian Lake. These monitoring data were presented and the SJRWMD determined that additional data are necessary to support the City determination that no impacts on adjacent wetlands are anticipated during the next five years.
