This report evaluates Contra Costa Water District's (CCWD) landscape audit program. The audit program seeks to improve irrigation efficiency by sending an irrigation expert to selected large turfgrass sites (averaging over one acre) to evaluate and recommend changes in irrigation equipment and practices. The landscape audit program is one of the Best Management Practices identified in the Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Urban Water Conservation in California, signed by CCWD in September 1991. The results of the audit program revealed that there was tremendous potential to improve irrigation efficiency. Several specific areas were identified: seasonal inefficiencies, scheduling, and cost-benefit considerations as contributing to the excessive water use in the Contra Costa Water District. Two recommendations are provided and a detailed outline of the water audit is included.
