The objectives of the research presented in this paper were: determine which pH and temperature conditions favor chlorine dioxide regeneration; achieve a better understanding of the mechanisms which cause chlorine dioxide regeneration in distribution systems; and develop methods of controlling chlorine dioxide regeneration, while still maintaining a free chlorine residual when desired.
