This paper discusses the role of meeting multiple water quality objectives in the decision-making process for the selection of treatment modifications for compliance with the Disinfectants/Disinfection Byproducts (D/DBP) Rule. The major objective of this paper is to identify the water quality factors (in addition to DBPs) behind a utility's decision to implement these treatment modifications, based on three initial case studies. Then the paper examines secondary impacts of implementing new technology to comply with the D/DBP Rule.
