In April 1997, Severn Trent Water Ltd purchased the Cheadle Water Works Company. It was clear that significant investment in the local water distribution infrastructure would be necessary to make improvement both to potable water quality and asset conditions, enabling Severn Trent to provide customers in Cheadle with a much improved service. Severn Trent's Standard Pipeline Rehabilitation Decision Matrix was applied to prioritize the project in the context of the rest of Severn Trent's capital improvement program and to identify the likely rehabilitation approach. This paper demonstrates Severn Trent Water's approach to prioritization of rehabilitation works, and to technique selection/project budget setting using the matrix which utilizes performance indicator data. The rehabilitation of the Cheadle mains network is used in a case study for the methodology.
