This paper presents a detailed validation of the use of a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code. The objectives include: describing the principles employed for numerically simulating the hydraulic behavior of the clearwells; identifying the numerical parameters likely to affect the accuracy of the simulations; and, recommending the adequate parameters to simulate planned clearwells. The retention time distribution curves obtained allow comparison with the experimental data. Many numerical parameters exert an influence in each of these steps, and a sensitivity analysis was performed for an ideal selection of the numerical parameters.
