This paper discusses sexual harassment in the workplace and presents suggestions for establishing a proactive, comprehensive program of preventive measures and process for resolving complaints. Five key elements of a thorough anti-harassment policy include: a broad statement advising employees that harassment and other forms of discrimination cannot (and will not) be tolerated by the company; a list of the types of conduct prohibited and the individuals covered by the policy; a clear description of the organization's internal complaint procedures; a clear pledge and commitment that no employee will be retaliated against for using the procedures; and, a statement assuring employees that complaint's will be held as confidentially as possible.
