A new modified in-vitro excystation method was utilized in this study which has been observed to produce results consistent with animal infectivity methods while simultaneously allowing for a more comprehensive analysis of the data collected. The objective of this study was to investigate the inactivation kinetics of C.parvum with free chlorine and monochloramine used as secondary disinfectants after primary disinfection with ozone. Experiments were performed with Iowa strain C.parvum oocysts obtained from the University of Arizona. Inactivation and ozone pretreatment experiments were conducted with a semi-batch reactor and analytical components. Secondary inactivation, ozone inactivation, and excystation assay are described.
