Groundwaters under the influence of surface water (GUISW) are typically characterized by low turbidity (but higher than typical groundwaters), pathogens, along with typical groundwater characteristics such as hardness and iron/manganese. Therefore, GUISW treatment technologies are aimed at microbial removal from low turbidity waters. This paper presents the background for a "candidate" project which is a GUISW and requires treatment. This is followed by an overview of the viable treatment technologies which could be considered for the "candidate" project with a special focus on membrane treatment systems. Finally, the technologies are applied to meet the needs of the "candidate" project.
