The proposed California Drinking Water Source Assessment and Protection Program (DWSAPP) will require submission of a source water assessment for all drinking water sources in the state. The assessment must include delineation of protection areas and zones around the water source, an inventory of possible contaminating activities (PCAs) within the areas and zones, and a vulnerability analysis that quantifies the susceptibility of the source to contamination. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is prepared for the DWSAPP due to the past work conducted during the sanitary surveys. Protection areas have been clearly defined by watershed boundaries, and "zones" may be represented by the 300 foot zone around the Hetch Hetchy Reservoirthat is protected by sanitary provisions in the federal Raker Act, and the 100 foot zone around water bodies on federal lands where camping is typically discouraged or prohibited. The inventory of PCAs is similar to SFPUC priority lists that are already compiled and updated annually as part of the watershed sanitary survey. Geographic information systems (GIS) will be used to show protection areas and zones, locations of PCAs, and resulting areas of susceptibility in the watershed. Includes tables, figures.
