East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) sets internal water quality goals through an interdepartmental WaterQuality Committee. The current EBMUD goal is that MTBE should not be detected(<0.5 ppb) in the distribution system. This goal is to be accomplished throughsource control. EBMUD has been examining the impact of MTBE on its water supplyreservoirs since 1996. In California, 27 surface water sources have beencontaminated by MTBE. This paper represents an update of information onevaluation and control of MTBE. Includes 6 references, table, figures.
