The City of Greensboro, North Carolina, is developing and implementing a Municipal StormwaterManagement Program that includes unique Geographic Information System (GIS)databases and applications. The GIS technology allows the City to optimize andtrack storm water infrastructure maintenance, assist with implementation of themunicipal NPDES storm water discharge permit, improve the local floodplainmanagement program, and facilitate multi-objective watershed-based modeling andstorm water management master planning. This paper provides an overview of theCity's Stormwater Management Program with a focus on an integration ofinteractive hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality models with a robust GISdatabase to create a tool that provides a sound technical basis for informedwatershed-based management and restoration decisions by local officials.
