Classic infrastructure management is simply a method of inventorying the infrastructure components, recording the information, providing maintenance, and from time to time physically inspecting the components. Computerizing this activity helps to achieve the classic aspects of the job, as well as adding some very powerful capabilities to the process. Every infrastructure management system should be capable of inventory, maintenance, repair, inspection, and modeling. Every system should also follow all standards of accepted database management. This paper presents guidelines for evaluating an infrastructure management system in terms of integration, adherence to standards, ease of use, flexibility, and expandability.
