This paper describes the development of an operations management information system for the Bridgeport Hydraulic Company (Connecticut), beginning with philosophical underpinnings and objectives, through the development of a methodology and formulating a database, to implementing the system. The company identified nine critical success factors which would be necessary for the organization to achieve its goals, for example "provide water quality that exceeds established standards." The methodology used started with a broad functional overview, progressively focusing on the business processes and activities of operations. Operations supervisors were asked to identify specific tasks that would support the critical success factors. To determine system requirements, information needs were broken down to their smallest pieces and a database created. Implementation will occur in three phases based on the priority ranking of each performance measure.
