This paper looks at the use of data loggers to provide a highly transportable temporary monitoring system. Here data loggers and associated transducers are used to monitor distribution system leakage rates in both the long and short term. The benefits of using this technology, when data must be analyzed or archived, are outlined. The paper describes; the need for a leakage control policy, demand metering as an active control methodology, a data logger for collecting demand data and a temporary flow meter. Finally the use of the data loggers and flow meters are applied to determine leakage rates in an area in a pipeline.
