Faced with declining use and the loss of a major water customer, the Cudahy Water Utility automated its treatment plant to reduce labor costs. The control system is a polling type of SCADA system with the use of nonintelligent I/O panels. All control resides in the computer, which uses a multitasking operating system and a standard operator interface software package. This paper describes how the system controls raw water pumps, chemical feed systems, filters, high service pumps, and the security and fire system.
