The automated demand allocation procedure has been used for applications relating to demand forecasting for capital and infrastructure planning, and an on-going program of unaccounted-for water monitoring. New home construction is occurring, which adds new customers to the service area. Another source of new customers are existing homes converting from an individual well supply to the Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) system. The addition of water demands associated with these new customers could exceed the capacity of the pumping station, and may impact other facilities including transmission mains and storage tanks. Information compiled during demand allocation procedures were used in combination with the ECWA Geographic Information System to forecast customer growth and demands. Based on these customer and demand forecasts, derived through the integrated database and an interface to the Authority GIS, infrastructure improvements including pumping stations, transmission mains, and storage, were incorporated in a comprehensive planning study.
