Philadelphia's High Pressure Fire System, a distinct water distribution system separatefrom the city's standard pressure filtered water distribution system, was constructed acentury ago solely for fire fighting purposes in the business section of the city. This paper discussesa study that was undertaken to assess the condition of the High Pressure Fire System and toevaluate it's usefulness in the twenty-first century in consideration of present firesuppression techniques, current building codes, modern fire-proofing materials, andcontemporary risk management methods. Results of the study are listed and recommendations are given. Includes 2 references.
