This paper discusses the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Valve Operating Program at the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Specifically, the paper focuses on necessary modifications to allow the valve operating machines to interface with the geographic information system (GIS) so this information could be mapped. E.H. Wachs Company, a valve operating machine manufacturer, installed a new computerized control box that could be downloaded to GIS. This control box, called Facility View, supports the valve maintenance program in three direct ways: it provides a mapping interface to identify and download valve information directly to the Wachs control box; it displays which valves have undergone preventive maintenance, displays the most recent valve PM information, and accesses valve PM reports: and, it provides the ability to download this information to Excel spreadsheets and print maps for planning and further analysis. Includes table, figures.
