As groundwater resources become increasingly overtaxed, there is a need to provide alternativewater sources. In some areas of the US such as Florida, surface water availability variesseasonally. Thus, one option for preserving groundwater supplies is to substitute surface waterduring the time of the year when it is available. This paper is a case study of the use of aninterconnect to provide treated surface water to an isolated portion of a distribution system that hadpreviously been served only by groundwater. Intensive testing was conducted to evaluate microbialwater quality and identify potential corrosion impacts associated with using multiple water sourcesin an isolated portion of a distribution system.
