This paper presents a water operation scheduling system for supplying drinking water to a widespread area. The schedule should be provided to operators as on-line information because the stateof water facilities such as the water level changes in real time. In a widespread area, the problem ofproviding on-line information is that it is difficult to calculate the schedule at high-speed, since thecalculation time for the schedule heavily depends on the number of water facilities. For high-speedcalculation, this paper proposes an optimization method using an improved Genetic Algorithm (GA)based on the mechanics of natural genetic evolution. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness ofthe proposed system from various viewpoints, including calculation time and efficient water operation. The proposed system has been introduced into a water purification plant for a widespreadarea having a population of 100,000.
