This poster paper presents a study of corrosion inhibitor addition to influence the impact of scale formation potential and corrosivity on pipe surface roughness. Experimental methods included: multiple source waters; corrosion inhibitors consisting of blended poly/orthophosphate, sodium orthophosphate, zinc orthosphosphate, and sodium silicate; pH elevation; roughness coupons incubated in PVC pipe cradles at the end of each pilot distribution system; and, new metal corrosion coupons incubated in separate electrochemical noise cradles. Topics presented include: measurement of surface roughness; sample scans; typical surface roughness and appearance of pipe materials before and after incubation; results; recommendations; and, conclusions.
