The purpose of this paper is to explain the hydraulic modeling process for the water distribution networks of the Madrid Region in Spain, including the City of Madrid. The water transmission and distribution for this area is managed by Canal de Isabel II (CYII), which is the largest water utility of Spain and supplies a population of 5 million with drinking water. Canal de Isabel II has 13 big reservoirs and 14 treatment plants, supplying an average flow of 19 m3/sec (433 mgd). Three technological supports were used in approaching the project: operational data (SCADA), network data (GIS) and network analysis.
