The search for a means of providing potable water to the citizens of the WestRiver Country, the area lying south and west of the Missouri River, has beenongoing since the first permanent farming community was established in 1851. TheSouthwest Pipeline Project (SWPP), will deliver treated Missouri River water to27 cities with public water systems, individual residences located within 21small municipalities without public water supply systems, and approximately 3,500rural water users in southwestern North Dakota. The Project will involve theconstruction of a triple-pump pumping station known as the Dickinson PumpStation-High Service. This paper describes the general pump station designapproach, the pump zone design and the pump configuration analyses that wereconducted. The layout of the clearwell and backup power supply and operationalflexibility are also discussed. Includes 2 references, table, figures.
