On-line programming can reduce SCADA system construction and operation by reducing on-site visits and manned operation. Utilizing readily available, inexpensive and proven technology together with on-line programming, Control System Integrators can make most supervisory control system programming modifications by simply placing a telephone call to the system rather than visiting the site of the system. Water system operators can utilize on-line programming to monitor and control water systems, water pumping stations, and water treatment plants from anywhere in the continental United States. One of the many advantages of this system is the speed with which problems can be corrected. Programming problems which may have required several days to correct because of travel time and scheduling, can be corrected in less than an hour. As a result, out of service time is reduced along with the cost of the service call.
