The Networks Department within the Asset Management Directorate at Severn Trent Water is responsible for the management of both the water distribution and sewerage networks that provide services to a population of 8.5 million people in central England. The Networks Department plays a pivotal role within Severn Trent Water in delivering a consistent quality product and a service which entails management of a significant number of business processes and interfaces. In order to minimize operational risk, management ensures that each and every activity is undertaken with consistent application of standards, processes and procedures. This imposes a considerable reliance on the provision of standard and accurate asset information. Therefore, an integrated information technology platform is required to sustain the business performance and imperatives. This paper describes the work undertaken by the Networks Department in addressing the strategic business needs surrounding mobile field worker management systems through its Distribution Job Management Improvement Project. Includes tables, figures.
