This paper presents a method to produce improved solutions to underdetermined problems in the hydraulic analysis of water distribution networks. The technique assumes the available data consists of demand estimates and sparse supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) measurements. The method of least-squares is used to find a set of demands that most closely resembles the proportions of the demand estimates while satisfying the constraints imposed by the SCADA data. A small example problem is presented to explain the mathematics of the procedure in detail. Includes 5 references, tables, figure.
