Three types of serious disputes that commonly arise during the construction of water treatment facilities are related to schedule delays, site conditions, and performance of the contract. Typical provisions of construction specifications pertaining to such disputes are examined. Finally, four techniques for resolving disputes are discussed from the project owner's point of view, namely negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation. Includes 6 references, tables.
