The use of microcomputers can help engineers and planners in designing water supply systems. Five microcomputer programs described here allow more rapid design of the components of municipal water systems. These programs, YIELD, DEMAND, MAINS, RESERV, and COSTS, cover water source yield, water demand projection, distribution pipeline economics, storage facility capacity, and an economic analysis of the net benefits of the project. The method used in each program is outlined, and an example of sizing a transmission main for pumped water is presented. Includes 13 references, tables, figures.
