Postprecipitation is defined as the precipitation of certain compounds in the distribution system after the water has been treated and is also referred to in the industry as corrosion-tubercules, deposition, encrustation, growth, scale, scum, sediment, and slime. This article discusses causes, effects, and prevention of postprecipitation of calcium carbonate, iron (corrosion), lead, zinc, aluminum, magnesium, manganese, polyelectrolytes, and microbiological growth.
