This article presents results of investigations conducted to study stresses induced in ductile-iron pipe by saddle supports. Data on pipe strain were used to determine the distribution of stress in the vicinity of the saddle. Results indicate that the optimum saddle angle appears to be in the range of 90-120 degrees. A formula for approximating the maximum localized stress in ductile-iron pipes with saddle angles in the range 90-120 degrees is presented. Includes 6 references, figures.
