This article discusses an investigation into leaks caused by internal corrosion of copper tubing. In the cases studied, a time lag occurred between installation of the copper tubing and initial use of the system, indicating a correlation between the initial stagnation time and the leaks. The study indicated that leaks in copper tubing develop when the pipe is not flushed to remove bits of permeable material that can initiate pit formation. Includes 13 references, table, figures.
