Algal growth on the upper walls of a reaction basin and in a few places on weirs in an upflow clarifier led to the discovery that biological nitrification was taking place in the plant, which was having a beneficial effect on water quality. The authors believe that if treatment processes take advantage of this phenomenon, better quality water could be achieved, possibly at a lower cost. Includes 7 references, table, figures.
