Engineers and planners need a system of computer programs to effectively analyze water distribution systems. The days of using a single computer program to solve for pressure and flow variables have passed. Capabilities such as extracting and combining networks and allocating loads are a must for optimal system operation. Manipulation, comparison, and checking programs provide efficient and accurate methods to process data and determine trends and solutions. The Denver Water Department has developed and used a set of computer programs for the analysis of treated water systems. The network analysis system of programs includes a network solution program as well as network extraction and combining programs. An integral part of this system is a load allocation program. A set of secondary programs has also been developed to help manipulate, compare, check, and rearrange data. Using such a system of programs, an engineer or planner performing long-range studies has a set of tools that can be used quickly and efficiently to design future water systems. The user has the capability to load, extract, and combine networks as desired. Programs used and discussed are MODELPOP, LAPDATA, LANDATA, WATSIM, WATMMCOM, ACOMP, WATDIFF, CWATDIFF, and EXPAN. Includes 4 references charts.
