A method for the determination of nineteen selected volatile, purgeable priority pollutants in water, based on the purge-and-trap technique, generates semiquantitative data for the selected pollutants as well as qualitative gas chromatography-mass spectrometry characterization of any other purgeable organics that may be present in a sample. The method was evaluated at the 5-50 ug/L level; lower detection levels are possible. The method presented here is recommended for the semiquantitative determination of 19 volatile priority pollutants in raw and treated surface water, groundwater, and industrial effluents. Includes 16 references, tables, figures.
