Examinations of the reaction kinetics of monochloramine reveals that by comparison to free chlorine and dichloramine, monochloramine reacts more slowly with GAC. This information is important in the design of GAC adsorption systems for such factors as influent NH2Cl concentration, flow rate, contact time, GAC bed depth, and particle size.
