For several summers Austin, Texas, has used transit-time ultrasonic meters to monitor hourly water use and derive coincident and noncoincident daily and hourly peaking factors for a sample of the city's single-family residential customer class. These data have been used in a formal cost-of-service study for setting cost-based rates. Additionally, the data have set the stage for operational, conservation, and pricing studies. Includes 5 references, tables, figure.
