Under the Information Collection Rule (ICR), large public water systems serving 100,000 people or more are required to monitor source water for Cryptosporidium. In some circumstances, finished water monitoring for Cryptosporidium is also required. Public notification for Cryptosporidium occurrence is not required under the ICR because monitoring data required by the ICR will be made available to the public. The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has issued optional language that water systems may include in public notices reporting that Cryptosporidium has been or may be detected in finished water. This paper summarizes the information that the USEPA recommends be included in a public health advisory. USEPA's optional public notice language for Cryptosporidium is also presented. Includes 2 references.
